1. Chapter 1 by kaitco [Reviews - 19] (10987 words)

This is my first novel. It takes place after "Burned" and anything that occurs afterward in the show should be ignored in regards to this book. I have also written this so that anyone, regardless of familiarity with SVU, can read it and understand the characters. If possible, I would also like comments, questions, hatemail, etc. to go here: http://svu.doriennesmith.com/flight/

Special thanks for everyone who beta read for me: Jo; Wendy; svuismylifemoce from TV.com; dadoinkdoink, FAN4EVER, mrslee, MunichGirl and SVUgal1318 from the USA forums and Froggie from MySpace

For those of you still reading: Thanks for hanging on while I finished the quarter (just one more left!). I realize now that I take some “artistic liberties” when it comes to Melinda’s duties in this chapter, but just bare with me. It is all for the best. :) Also of note, I made a slight change to the end of Chapter 24. Elliot sees “the man” and “the boy” on East 119th, instead of East 90th. It is not that significant; I just wanted to push into a less wealthy area of Manhattan.

27. Chapter 27 by kaitco [Reviews - 9] (18744 words)

28. Chapter 28 by kaitco [Reviews - 8] (15055 words)
I'm sorry this is so late. I realized Tuesday that I needed to do a complete overhaul of the chapter which pushed the update to Wednesday. Then we had a tornado Wednesday which pushed it back to Thursday. Then I had a hair...issue Thursday which made me determined to update on Friday, but considering the week I had, I fell asleep early. Again, I'm so sorry.

This is chapter twenty-eight of thirty-three, so as some of you have started guessing, this story is shortly coming to an end. The good news, however, is that I have another novel-sized story in the works, so this will not be the last you hear from me. :)

I did have a poll-type question for anyone who might be reading: If I were to write another SVU novel, should I or should I not reference certain occurences in "Flight?" I would appreciate any response to this. Cheers!
29. Chapter 29 by kaitco [Reviews - 7] (13582 words)

Finally, we learn what really happened "that" night! If you ever had the desire (or really, the time) to read some of the previous chapters again, you might see a lot of hints that have been dropped here and there to bring the story to this point, including a character outwardly stating what the rest of the crew would learn later. Reviewing this again, part of the conclusion seems too simple, but we still have a few more chapters of drama and intrigue before we get complete closure. Cheers!

Sorry this has taken forever. Author's Notes at the bottom. Cheers!

31. Chapter 31 by kaitco [Reviews - 6] (23083 words)

A/N: Unlike with all the other chapters I have had to re-write, for this one, I threw out almost every word I originally wrote and started from scratch. As a result, this chapter turned out to be long. I mean really, REALLY long. To my credit, I did manage to cut about twenty pages from this and mesh it into the next chapter, but this one is still very long, so if it is 2AM and you are just looking into this, you may want to wait until you have some more time. ;)

I did a little experiment with a part of the prose in this chapter; it should stand out because it looks a bit odd. I am not sure how well it worked since I re-wrote this chapter sans-beta reader, but I am interested to hear any responses about it.

Some biblical imagery is presented in some of the dialogue in this chapter and, while I think it seems clear and straightforward, I often forget that not everyone has even laymen knowledge about biblical texts and figures. If there is anything that got confusing or unclear, just let me know since, like I said, this whole chapter is completely un-beta’ed and open to hard criticism.

Also, a portion of this chapter delves into some trial practices. There are questions asked in a “re-direct” that, were this a real case, any competent prosecutor would have asked during the initial “direct,” but as I have taken a few artistic licenses here and there, hopefully it will make sense why I wrote the scene the way I did. Cheers!

32. Chapter 32 by kaitco [Reviews - 9] (16546 words)

A/N: A note about birthdays in the story. I am fairly confident I got the birthdays for both detectives completely wrong (just like with where they live in the city), but I am just going to talk this up to artistic license because the story just works better with the birthdays I’ve chosen for Olivia and Elliot.

33. Chapter 33 by kaitco [Reviews - 6] (27274 words)

A/N: Goodness! It has been a while, hasn't it? Sorry about that. More notes at the bottom and caution, this chapter is the longest of the whole book. Cheers!

34. Chapter 34 by kaitco [Reviews - 9] (11040 words)

This is coming later than I intended, but don't blame me; blame Hurricane Ike and the "fun" it pushed on people who don't even live in an area that should be affected by tropical storms. :/ ...and so, half a million words later...
